On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Choose appropriately from a range of research methods relevant to gathering and analyzing data in an educational setting
2. Create a research proposal for small scale case study project in school (A1)(T5)
3. Gather and analyse relevant data and relate this to research in the field (T3) (contributing to Q13)

The aim of this module is for trainees to explore a child’s perception of learning in a small scale research project. Examining an area of choice, trainees will be required to draw on a range of evidence to support their analysis of this child’s learning experience. The project may take place in a learning setting other than a school classroom and can reflect trainees’ interests.
To support the project, the module will include:
• Development of their understanding of research methods for educational research
• Introduction to effective interview/ discussion techniques
• Evaluating related research
• Creating a project proposal
• Analysing and reporting evidence
Workshop sessions will involve trainees in practical activities involved with teaching and learning and evaluation. Lectures will involve trainees in interactive discussion and analysis of sources and key concepts. Tutorials will involve trainees in small group and individual discussion focusing on analysis and synthesis. Time allocated to each is appropriate to the module delivered eg.
