PCS6012 - Early Years Professional Practice

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Express an understanding of the Early Years Professional standards and how they are related to effective practice in an early years setting
2 Critically evaluate research related to effective practice, impact of Early Years strategies and innovations and the Early Years Foundation Stage
3 Reflect critically on their own practice and develop professional targets

Content:

In this module students will engage with the Early Years Professional standards in order to evaluate effective practice in Early Years practice and leadership. As well as practitioner evaluation, students will critically review research into developments since Sure Start, Every Child Matters and the 2006 Childcare Act. Students will be expected to evaluate their own setting and personal practice in order to consider the ideal environment for the very young.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
