PCS6002 - Early Learning

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Critically review issues related to ideal conditions for early learning including socio economic, family circumstances and individual learning
2 Evaluate the theory related to early learning and the role of play in the learning environment and foundation stage setting
3 Outline theory related to self identity and how this relates to confidence in transitions, relationship building and readiness to learn

Content:

This module explores early development theory related to attachment, early learning, self-identity and relates this to a child’s ability to cope with an Early Years setting and learning opportunities during the first eight years.

Students will examine effective techniques to establish relationships with children, to create an effective environment and engage young children in early learning. Reflection will include examination of their own skills in relation to observation of individual needs.

Students will be expected to identify common themes and arguments in the theory and research and conflicting viewpoints, with how these may have arisen.
