MFC5012 - Professional Development and Placement - Media, Film & Culture 2

Objectives:

On successful completion of this module students will be able to:

(1) Identify and apply principles of effective relationships and team working
(2) Demonstrate understanding of basic principles and procedures of staff review and appraisal
(3) Apply knowledge and skills in the work situation and perform to a satisfactory standard
(4) Critically analyse the aims, structure and activities of a specific organisation or other structured professional experience.

Content:

(1) A professional development programme of weekly sessions, with special reference to the audio-visual and cultural sectors. The programme will comprise
• Reflection on the nature of work and ethical issues related to it;
• Introduction to principles and practice of staff review and appraisal;
• Development of group work and team building;
• Interviews with Placement Tutor.
(2) Placement with suitable organisation(s), normally six weeks in total.
(3) Critical reflection on and evaluation of placement.

Additional assessment information
The Portfolio will normally include the submission of a series of blog posts reflecting on feedback from the Level 4 placement, as well as focusing on personal and professional development goals towards the second placement and awareness of industry issues, along with an updated CV.
A numeric mark will be returned for this module but students must the placement in order to pass the module overall.
Students must pass the module in order to be eligible to progress to Level 6.
Normally a student will be ineligible to undertake the placement without satisfactory completion of the pre-placement programme and the required submission of CV and placement registration form / placement details to the Employer Partnership Office.
The placement element of assessment is normally of 6 weeks duration and may comprise an external placement or other structured professional experience which meets the learning objectives of this module and involves an equivalent workload. In either case, the placement will be the subject of explicit agreement between the student, supervisor, module co-ordinator and the EPO
