On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
propose and justify a range of strategies intended to address the needs of children with specific SEN difficulties
explain difficulties faced by children who have been identified as having SEN, and their families
generate reasoned arguments supported by academic research
formulate information in the field of study and construct its communication to specialist or non-specialist audiences, drawing on effective use of IT
This module will build on the Level 4 module FDA 4072 Introduction to SEN and Disability. However, it is possible that participants with expertise from working contexts or previous training may access the Level 5 module having not attended the Level 4 SEN module.
It will focus on four key difficulties for children and their families: autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia, and will explore and analyse key indicators, supportive strategies, multi-agency impact, planning and equipment including those in student’s setting, along with key theory/research related to these difficulties.
Students will have the opportunity to develop skills to use IT effectively to advise and inform specialist or non-specialist audiences on a chosen SEN difficulty. There will also be an opportunity to critically review statistical data and academic findings relating to the field.
Within this module, students will be expected to begin to interpret statistical and thematic data.
This module will address the following Foundation Degree participants :
