FCL4032 - Developing Training Skills for Movement and Dance

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate appropriate basic teaching methods and skills.
2. Produce an effective teaching plan.
3. Demonstrate awareness on how to modify their teaching to suit different participants.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of training, adaptation and physiology.

Content:

Within a suitable class environment students will demonstrate the ability to teach basic elements of Lishi movement and dance. The demonstration will be supported by the production of an effective teaching session plan that shows development, consolidation and extension of skills. Students will be able to demonstrate how they would modify and adapt their planning and delivery to suit different user groups – for example a falls prevention programme or a school-based session. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the principles of training adaptation and physiology to help inform their teaching plans. Students will demonstrate knowledge of issues of safeguarding relating to working with children and other vulnerable groups and will integrate all advisory protocols coming from working with different participants and groups, including liaison with appropriate professionals.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Within each teaching block there will be a one-day intensive session that will introduce the two modules to be studied. Following this, students will undertake on-line distance learning via Moodle to structure the 12-week teaching block with appropriate milestones, formative tasks and final submission of assignments.

Additionally, students will be attending Lishi classes (usually on a weekly basis) where they may carry out learning tasks appropriate to that module, including observed teaching assignments and presentations.

Once calibration is achieved there will be a system of sampled second marking and moderation to assure quality and best practice.

Assessment:

001 Reflective journal demonstrating Kolb cycle engagement 1 x 1500 words 50%
002 Lesson plans and action-planning following evaluation 1 x 2500 words 50%
003 Practical assessment of delivery performance 1 x 1 hour (pass/fail) 0%
