SHL4472 - Contemporary Issues in Sport

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Understand the complexity of sport in the modern world.
2 Demonstrate a critical understanding of key issues within sport, encompassing health, exercise and a range of academic disciplines.
3 Present oral and written ideas in a clear and logical manner, and making appropriate use of information technology.

Content:

The module provides an introduction to a variety of contemporary issues which influence an individual’s experience of sport. The module explores how a multidisciplinary approach may offer a specific insight into the role of sport in the modern world. This module provides the student with an opportunity to explore and critically discuss a current issue within sport (and make links to associated areas such as health and exercise) through the synthesis and examination of theoretical research within that area.

The module will introduce a range of research skills including the practicalities and importance of conducting a literature review, as well as developing planning and presentation skills.
