PYP6062 - Social & Health Care in the Community

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Outline common conditions and how they might be manifest
2 Evaluate approaches to the support of those with additional needs in a range of settings
3 Critically review research related to the effective assessment and inclusion of those with individual needs

Content:

In this module students will be expected to describe common conditions, their initial identification and ways of supporting those with these conditions in the setting.

Key themes include:
• ADHD, Aspergers and autism
• Physical impairments
• Dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia
• Behavioural and social/emotional disorders
• Support methods eg. Makaton, PECs, therapies, behaviour management approaches

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
