On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Critically review the research related to the effectiveness of mentoring on the development of children and young people
2 Analyse the roles within the multi agency environment and their responsibilities with regard to mentoring clients
3 Reflect on the skills required to mentor effectively within a support role with children, young people and families and critically evaluate personal skills
In this module students are expected to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of mentoring and issues related to the use of mentoring including:
• Research into effective mentoring for particular family and individual circumstances
• Formal systems in place for mentoring in the support of children, young people and family
• Analysis of the roles and responsibilities of those within the multi agency environment who engage in mentoring with children, young people and family including the use of a range of therapies
Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
