PYP6002 - Supporting Learning in Classroom Practice

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Critically evaluate inhibitors to learning in the context of key learning theories
2 Analyse approaches to supporting learning in the classroom setting; early years to adult learning
3 Critically review research related to the development of independent learning skills, thinking skills, creativity and motivation to learn

Content:

In this module students are expected to synthesise learning theory research, awareness of SEN and additional needs of learners, curricula and psychology of learning and motivation in analyzing the purpose and impact of support for individuals and groups in a classroom setting.

They should engage in personal reflection on learning and how changes in teaching strategy, level of support, guidance and motivation impacted on their own learning. As a result of this reflection and synthesis, students will be expected to evaluate key skills for the effective support of learners in a range of formal learning environments.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
