PPP5002 - Work Based Research

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate an awareness of key research approaches, their relative merits and drawbacks
2 Evaluate effective research approaches for their profession
3 Critically analyse research undertaken in their field
4 Reflect critically on ethical considerations for research with individuals in a range of settings

Content:

This module introduces students to research methodology, how to gather and analyse data, relevant research in their field and how to use this as a starting point for developing their own research potential.

Key themes include:
• Quantitative and qualitative approaches to research
• Techniques for gathering data
• Ethical issues in research
• Use of national statistics and other data
• Case study approaches

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
