PPE5013 - Observations, Schemas and Assessment of Needs

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate an awareness of theory related to schemas
2 Consider observation data and how this relates to the assessment of young children’s development and needs
3 Evaluate children’s needs within the setting and how observations, an understanding of theory and schemas can inform planning and support of children within the setting

Content:

Knowledge: This module relates theories of schemas with how to assess learning and plan for young children’s development in the early years setting.

Reflection: Making observations of young children’s play and interactions and reflect on how these relate to the theory

Application: Examine their own practice in evaluating children’s needs using the evidence from observations

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
