On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Evaluate theory related to schemas.
2. Analyse observation data and how this relates to the assessment of young children's development and needs.
3. Contrast theories related to observation and assessment of young children.
This module relates theories of schemas with how to assess learning and plan for young children's development in the early years setting.
Key themes include:
- Making observations of young children's play and interactions.
- Key theory related to children's behaviour and problem solving.
- Case study evidence related to interventions and assessments using schemas.
Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
