On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
(1) Communicate awareness of the effective conditions for learning in an early years and key stage 1 setting
(2) Express an understanding of the roles of colleagues, parents and carers in the development and well being of children and to raising their levels of attainment (Q5)
(3) Consider approaches to behaviour management and planning for a positive learning environment (Q10)
(4) Express an understanding of the key principles and school ethos that underpin Foundation and Key Stage 1 settings reflecting relevant documents and strategies (Q15,Q22)
This module will include:
- The role of the key partners in child learning: parents, carers, teachers, other professionals
- Examining issues of inclusion for young children: including elements of special educational need, EAL, cultural background etc.
- Exploring methods for managing the learning environment and working with key personnel in school
- Classroom organization
- Understanding the planning cycle from medium term planning to planning sessions
- Key features of session planning
- Planning for behaviour management
By the end of this module students should be able to plan a series of learning sessions using the TASC format and rationalize their approach including reference to behaviour management, classroom organization and the role of others in the learning environment.

Workshop sessions will involve trainees in practical activities involved with teaching and learning and evaluation. Lectures will involve trainees in interactive discussion and analysis of sources and key concepts. Tutorials will involve trainees in small group and individual discussion focusing on analysis and synthesis. Time allocated to each is appropriate to the module delivered eg. P.E. all workshop; professional studies workshop 50%, tutorial 50%.
