On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Begin to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the underlying values and principles relevant to education.
2 Begin to analyse educational concepts, theories and issues in a systematic way.
3 Begin to demonstrate the ability to reflect on their own and others values systems.
4 Begin to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the diversity of learners and the complexities of the education process.
5 Select a range or relevant primary and secondary sources, including theoretical and research based evidence to extend their knowledge and understanding.
Begin to create knowledge and understanding in relation to pedagogical approaches in supporting young children’s learning. (eg. Introduction to how schools organise learning. Introduction to the relationship between planning, teaching and assessment.)
Consideration of how teachers create environments to support learning (eg. start to consider teaching strategies. Introduce planning for learning, organisation of learning and assessment for learning.)
Start to analyse educational concepts, theories and policy in a systematic way. (eg. introduce and start to consider the National Curriculums in Early Years and Primary Schools and their aims, values and principles. Introduce and start to consider approaches to teaching and learning and the underpinning learning theory. Introduce and start to consider learning skills and attributes for learners.)
Reflect on values, skills and attributes necessary for teachers.
