PEC5003 - Supporting Communication

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate an understanding of key issues related to communicating effectively within their profession and across professional boundaries in integrated services
2 Evaluate circumstances in which communication may break down and strategies for reestablishing communication
3 Review their own communication skills and plan how they could improve the communication between their team and with clients

Content:

Knowledge: Common Core of knowledge and skills for the children’s workforce; data sharing between agencies; effective communication in teams, communicating effectively with individuals and families in support work

Reflection: Reflect on cases where communication has broken down and consider the reasons behind the breakdown and how to work with individuals to improve relationships

Application: reflect on their professional skills in relation to communication within the workplace and with clients

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
