PEC4003 - Does Every Child Matter?

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Express an understanding of the origins of the Every Child Matters agenda from the Climbie case to the most recent developments and plans
2 Review the legislation affecting working with children, young people and families and how this has been implemented
3 Evaluate the success of ECM developments and multi agency working
4 Evaluate their own role and profession within the integrated workforce

Content:

Knowledge: Key strategies, legislation and workforce reform since Laming Report.

Reflection: Reflect on the research and evaluations of ECM and multi-agency workforce developments related to their intended outcomes, in particular safeguarding and children’s welfare

Application: Analyse their own profession’s role within the children’s workforce, their responsibilities and how they work within the legislation

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
