On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to fulfil the key roles and team co-ordination integral to the efficient operation of a radio newsroom
2 Deploy core production skills in the creation and transmission of audio materials
3 Demonstrate knowledge of and critical reflection upon the intellectual, social and technical skills integral to achieving high standards of professional practice in the production of radio news
4 Mobilise all the skills, knowledge and reflective considerations acquired in MJO 18023, MJO 28023 and MJO 48022
Establishing news values and audience profiles; news recognition; news prioritising; creating a running order; research and sources; interviewing for audio; vox pops; scripting for the spoken word; producing news packages; constructing news bulletins; cutting, wrapping and cueing of audio material; news reading and live presentation; editing; sound recording and sound effects; driving a radio desk; in-studio production; working to deadlines; briefings; timings; radio grammar and conventions; team working and team leadership. Use of wire and on-line data feeds. Voice training. Integration of audio material in a multi-media newsroom.
Group workshops, structured upon introductory lectures and group or individualised exercises, within and outside college. Regular and frequent tutor feedback on work produced, conducted in individual and in group sessions.
