On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate the ability to manipulate a photographic, DTP and web application.
2. produce structured practical digital material from a brief, with appropriate application of typography and graphics.
3. demonstrate a basic understanding of the role of digital imaging in the media industries (Web, Print, Television).
The module provides an introduction to the terminology of digital imaging, DTP and web design and an examination of software and hardware used in the industry. It explains key terms such as resolution, colour depth, layout, typography, structure of HTML and multimedia asset creation and delivery. Montage techniques will be examined with relevance to today’s industry methods. More advanced forms of image creation will be explored by example and review of contemporary ‘still’ and ‘moving’ images in today’s advertising and entertainment industries.
Students will practice and apply techniques for the production items such as photographic compositions / multimedia assets in the form of poster; web banner advertising; DTP layout concepts; a web site containing images, text, animation; 2D printed promotional paper media for P.R. purposes.
