On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Evaluate the effectiveness of a range of therapeutic approaches to working with children, young people and families
2 Explore the theoretical underpinnings of the relevant therapies
3 Analyse the impact of therapeutic intervention on an individual case with whom they have worked
4 Identify opportunities for the inclusion of therapeutic approaches in their professional setting
This module will examine examples of therapeutic work with families, working with families in need, providing both practical and emotional support for children, young people and families.
Themes include play therapy with children, working with children with individual needs, families in challenging circumstances and related social, economic and welfare issues. Students will examine the work of those in the multi agency environment including health visitors, social workers, welfare and social care workers, teachers and those working in children’s rights.
Learning will be through a range of lectures, workshops and tutorials. Students will be expected to draw on a range of sources including their own working experiences. Group discussion and tasks will form a significant proportion of the College based learning to develop relevant analytical skills.
Students will record their development within a Personal Development Log.
