On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Express an understanding of the origins of the Every Child Matters agenda
2 Begin to evaluate key documents that have arisen from the Climbie inquiry
3 Begin to analyse the impact of ECM on their work setting
4 Express an opinion on current debates related to ECM
The module will explore the Victoria Climbie case and how this acted as the motivation for a series of legislative and strategic developments in the lives of children, young people and families.
Students will be expected to express an opinion on the impact of developments and how extended school services have been expected to respond to the developments.
Students will be presented with literature on the most recent developments and consider potential future developments.
Learning will be through a range of lectures, workshops and tutorials and ICT skills development sessions. Students will be expected to draw on a range of sources including their own working experiences. Group discussion and tasks will form a significant proportion of the College based learning to develop relevant analytical skills. Students will record their development within a Personal Development Log.
