On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
(1) explain the importance of ‘literacies’ as life skills
(2) reflect critically on opportunities for and barriers to literacy learning
(3) identify and evaluate texts to support literacy learning
(4) apply strategies, techniques and routines which support literacy learning, including ICT
The module will include the study of:
• language and literacy – a meta-language
• the role of story telling in literacy learning
• popular culture and new technologies
• promoting home-school links to support literacy learning
• children’s perceptions of themselves as readers and writers
• gender and literacy
At Level 5 it is expected that students will know and understand the essential mechanics of HE study and be able to work more independently in resourcing and researching their learning. Work at Level 5 will emphasize the application and analysis of theory and develop the skills of critical reasoning.
The key learning and teaching strategies in this module will be supporting students to undertake group and individual presentations.
This module will include a review of student’s personal action plans for T2 & T3
