On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1) Explain the functions surrounding the development of Capital Bids and procurement of resources and equipment
2) Specify the process of handling and monitoring contracts with external suppliers
3) Hypothesise best practice in terms of engaging repairs and renewals from outside contractors.
4) Debate the implications of working within different funding environments, including management of income streams from effective management of the site
5) Predict issues in relation to the management of estates with reference to current legislation, policy and ecological context.
The module will explore areas concerned with estate management within LA educational establishments including:
Financial probity of renting activities
Health and Safety issues
Community access to facilities on site
Building and grounds development
New Build and capital projects
Legal implications of renting/lettings/community use
Learning will be through a range of lectures, workshops and tutorials and ICT skills development sessions. Students will be expected to draw on a range of sources including their own working experiences. Group discussion and tasks will form a significant proportion of the College-based learning to develop relevant analytical skills. Students will record their development within a Personal Development Log.
