On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
(1) Demonstrate knowledge of the rights of children and young people who are identified as being at risk
(2) Draw upon previous knowledge of roles of different agencies including their own agency to map and analyse methods of co-ordinating frameworks to promote positive outcomes for individuals with complex needs
(3) Analyse ethical issues involved in successful advocacy e.g. data sharing or issues of social justice
(4) Reflect upon the implications of supporting children in voicing their own opinions and evaluating their own needs and evaluate effective professional practice in this area
This module will offer a broad overview of the legislative framework affecting the participants’ own area. There will be discussion of how the legislation is implemented and of the methods and frameworks by which children young people and vulnerable young adults are supported and managed in order to achieve positive outcomes. Students will analyse some ethical issues associated with children’s rights and voices such as data protection and issues of social justice e.g. equal opportunities, access to services, mental health needs. The implications of supporting children in recognising and voicing their own opinions and needs will be discussed. Students will be supported in evaluating the effectiveness of their own professional practice in this area
At Level 5 it is expected that students will know and understand the essential mechanics of HE study and be able to work more independently in resourcing and researching their learning. Work at Level 5 will emphasize the application and analysis of theory and develop the skills of critical reasoning.
A key teaching and learning strategy used in this module will be modelling research based techniques e.g. conducting an interview
