Their tasks will raise and clarify questions concerning the relations between narration, form, authorship and audience in narrative texts chosen from a range of periods and cultures.

In Semester 2, students will make a close study of the selected works of a group of poets from the early twentieth century, paying attention to the interaction of form and content, innovations in technique, and aspects of each poet's vision and interpretation of human experience, and issues raised by the 'modernist' debate. Concurrently, students will explore aspects of the poet's craft through a series of group exercises drawing on particular poems from various periods.
