EDS6042 - The International Scene

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate an understanding of the differences between curricula, education structures and priorities in a range of countries
2 Evaluate the system within a particular country or international issue of interest in relation to the UK systems
3 Critically review research into comparative education from an issues based perspective

Content:

In this module students will be expected to gain an understanding of the differences between key educational systems, priorities and issues.

Key elements of study could include:
• Philosophies of education
• Education and employability
• Examination systems
• Early years education and pre school strategies
• Universities and colleges and the uptake of non compulsory education
• Globalisation and new technologies
• International schooling and the international curriculum

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
