EDS6022 - The Psychology of Education

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Critically evaluate key perspectives on and theoretical approaches to learning
2 Analyse issues related to motivation, behaviour and diversity on learning
3 Critically review theories of intelligence

Content:

In this module students will be expected to evaluate key elements of the psychology of learning and education including issues such as:
• Behaviourist and constructivist theories of learning
• Cultural, gender, social differences and how these impact on learning
• Behaviour and motivation and their relationship to learning
• Theories of intelligence building on level 1 module on Binet to today

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
