EDS5042 - Educational Research Methods

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Evaluate key debates in research methodology, including ethical issues and how it relates to education
2. Outline research methods and relative merits in relation to educational research
3. Analyse research reports in aspects of personal interest

Content:

In this module students will be expected to engage with debate related to quantitative and qualitative research methodology and their relationship with education.

Key themes will include:
• Research methods for qualitative and quantitative approaches
• Opportunities to evaluate case studies and a range of research reports to review effective methods in educational research
• How to develop personal research interests

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
