EDS5032 - From Early Years to Adults: Curricula and Strategies

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Evaluate the relationship between how children, young people and adults learn and the impact of the related curricula
2. Analyse a range of viewpoints related to the design of curricula and educational strategies
3. Reflect on their own experiences in education and express an informed opinion related to curricula.

Content:

In this module students will draw together their understanding from a range of sources related to how individuals learn and how this can be supported or inhibited through the curriculum adopted.

Key themes include:
- Early Years Foundation Stage developments
- Primary National Strategy and related developments
- Secondary education: GCSE, SATs, A Levels, Baccaleureate, Diplomas
- FE and HE curricular guidance, QAA benchmarking and training programmes
- Learning styles and individual needs and how the curriculum relates to these
- Experiential learning.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
