On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Evaluate the policies and perspectives of government since 1944 in relation to educational reform and development.
2. Evaluate the impact of politics on education systems and strategies.
3. Reflect on their own political perspectives and the influence this may have on their view of political involvement in education.
4. Analyse presentations of educational policy in popular media.
This module reviews policy and legislation since the 1944 Education Act and the impact of political changes on education reform and developments.
Students will be expected to consider:
- The main changes of political perspectives since 1944.
- Key political strategies and interventions.
- Impact of Party Politics on educational priorities.
- How political perspectives are portrayed to the general public through tv, radio, internet and news media.
Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
