On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Evaluate the employability skills required to work in this field and analyse current personal skill sets;
2 Successfully conclude a professional placement demonstrating appropriate employment skills and standards;
3 Reflect on the relationship between college-based learning and the placement experience; have analysed their performance and planned for personal/professional development.
This module will involve three stages: preparation, work placement and reflection.
Preparation: students will undergo a series of workshops in which they will consider employability skills, analyse their current skill-sets and undertaken the practicalities of gaining and undertaking a work placement in a relevant occupation related to their field of study.
Work placement: students will find themselves a placement with support and undertake a period of employment in an appropriate setting.
Reflection: students will complete a report reflecting upon the practical skills gained through the work experience and what they have learnt about the application of theoretical understanding in a practical setting. They will also create a development plan for their personal, academic and professional development.
Series of workshops, followed by a 6-week block of work. Placement evaluation will take place during the first workshop of Level 4.
