On completion of the module students will be able to:
(1) Undertake a critical analysis of the complexities of a range of factors and issues which contribute to participation and performance of young people in sports and physical activity.
(2) critically evaluate the roles and responsibilities of government initiatives
(3) undertake a review of literature, under supervision and critique and communicate findings in written format.
(4) demonstrate effective communication skills in an oral poster presentation defense. Conduct and design a poster presentation by adhering to conference standard guidelines.
Students will explore a range of issues and government initiatives. The module critically addresses topics such as, the young gifted athlete, disability, moral/ethical issues, gender, race, ethnicity and burnout in the young.
In preparation for the semester 2 assessment, students will explore the design and production of an effective poster presentation.
This module involves a high level of independent study/work supported by a named supervising tutor in semester 2. Throughout the 2 semesters, learning and teaching will be achieved through the means of lectures, seminars, tutorials and independent research.
