SHL4402 - PE, Games, Athletics and Outdoor Activities

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

(1) demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key issues in School PE;
(2) demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the primary and secondary National Curriculum PE;
(3) demonstrate understanding of the aims and content of games, athletics and OAA taught in secondary school at key stage 3 & 4;
(4) plan and construct progressive games lessons with clear teaching objectives, tasks, teaching points, safety issues, progressive targets, observation and feedback;
(5) demonstrate knowledge of the key partners to work with in the community.

Content:

National Curriculum Programme of Study Key Stages 1-4>br> Issues in PE: inclusion; formal and informal modes of assessment; linking PE across the whole-school curriculum at Key Stages 3 & 4; competition and cooperation; Sports Days; health & safety issues; progression and continuity from primary to secondary
Practical teaching in Secondary PE games, athletics and OAA
Teaching methods: planning and preparation, teaching points, observation, demonstration, organisation, positioning, positive criteria feedback, differentiation and progressive targets Lesson planning and unit planning, monitoring and assessment
Key partners for each sport in the community
