PYP6112 - Inclusion and addressing individual needs

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Critically evaluate selected debates and research related to inclusion strategies and approaches, including issues of an individual’s rights
2 Identify and analyse key elements related to assessment of need and strategies for addressing these in a range of fields including education, society and work
3 Evaluate the needs of individuals with whom they work and the effectiveness of how these are addressed

Content:

This taught module evaluates debates and issues related to the diversity of individuals with whom students work and how to provide for their individual needs

Key themes include:
• Inclusion and integration issues and debates
• Legislation related to an individual’s rights to have their needs met
• Perceptions of need in society’s approach to the support of individuals with particular needs
• How to work effectively with children, young people or adults with individual needs
• How to support families where a member has particular needs

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions>br>
