PYP6082 - Supporting Learning

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Critically review learning theory and strategies in light of their experiences and own learning style
2. Evaluate the impact of environmental, social, physical issues on an individual’s learning and cognitive development
3. Examine their own role in supporting the learning of children, young people or adults and critically appraise their practice

Content:

This taught module examines learning theory, the development of cognitive abilities, inhibitors to learning and the impact of teaching strategies and institutions on individual learning.

Lifelong learning is considered as well as early years to higher education issues.

Students will examine their role in supporting the learning of those with whom they work; how they assess initial needs; strategies they use to support learners and how to measure success.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
