On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Critically review the work of a range of children’s services, their roles and responsibilities in light of legal responsibilities and expectations
2 Critically review legislation related to multi agency working and evaluate the impact on children’s services
3 Reflect on the affect of multi-agency working on the welfare and circumstances of families in supporting children and young people
In this module students will be expected to evaluate the impact of post-Every Child Matters (ECM) legislation and restructuring of children’s services.
Key themes include:
• Evaluating the impact of ECM on the roles and responsibilities of key personnel across children’s services
• Analysis of the effectiveness of extended schools strategies and developments
• The impact of ECM on families through research, case studies and media portrayal of legislation and practice
Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
