On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Evaluate key debates in research methodology, including ethical considerations and how it relates to extended services professions and cases
2 Outline research methods and their relative merits or challenges
3 Analyse research reports in aspects of personal interest
In this module students will be expected to engage with debate related to quantitative and qualitative research methodology and their relationship to their interests in education, health, social care, mentoring or other relevant issues.
Key themes will include:
• Research methods for qualitative and quantitative approaches
• Opportunities to evaluate case studies, quantitative reports and a range of other relevant research to review effective methods in research
• Ethical issues
• How to develop personal research interest
Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
