PYP5012 - Delinquency and Society

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Outline key theories related to the psychology of behaviour,
2. Evaluate the research related to circumstances in which delinquency may develop,
3. Analyse theory related to self image, self esteem, moral and social development and its application to the development of delinquent behaviour,
4. Review systems and strategies established to manage and overcome delinquency.

Content:

In this module students are expected to gain an understanding of the development of delinquent behaviour and its management or eradication including issues of:

- Development theory related to social, emotional, moral development
- Psychologies of behaviour
- Social, economic and environmental factors
- Formal, legal and informal approaches to delinquent behaviour management and eradication.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
