PYP5002 - Supporting Inclusion

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Critically evaluate views related to the inclusion of children and young people with additional needs in mainstream education,
2. Evaluate issues related to attitudes towards inclusion of those with additional needs in society,
3. Critically review a range of case studies related to inclusion issues,
4. Explore ways in which workers can support those with individual needs to gain access to inclusive education, services etc.

Content:

In this module students are expected to evaluate attitudes and issues related to the inclusion within education, services and society of those with additional needs.

Key themes include:
- Inclusive education
- Access issues
- Supporting families of those with additional needs
- Legislation related to inclusion
- Supporting individuals in achieving their rights.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
