PYP4022 - Learning Development

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Express an understanding of key theories of learning development.
2. Demonstrate an awareness of inhibitors to learning and explore ways in which these can be supported.
3. Explore learning in a range of contexts and relative notions of success.
4. Develop a personal understanding of own learning style, development and experiences.

Content:

The aim of this module is to develop within students an awareness of the range of learning theories including: behaviourist, constructivist, multiple intelligences, visual, auditory, kinesthetic learning and current research on learning. They wil consider 'normal' development and learning inhibitors.

Students will be expected to explore learning in contexts other than school and consider how this can be supported by practitioners in order to enable a successful outcome.

Students will develop an awareness of their own learning and evaluate their learning experiences, successes and challenges.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions
