PWM5003 - Behaviour & Change

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of theory related to the development of personality and behaviour
2 Evaluate how an individual’s behaviour is affecting their well-being, identify their motivation for change and explore opportunities and barriers to change
3 Evaluate their skills of motivational interviewing in exploring rationale for change and supporting individuals or groups to understand their need to change and how this can be achieved

Content:

Knowledge: Behaviour change models; personality theory; effective mentoring for change

Reflection: inhibitors to behaviour awareness and need for change

Skills: developing problem solving skills related to complex cases

Application: working with individuals – motivational interviewing, exploring attitudes and knowledge, decision balance and goal setting techniques, relapse prevention; personal action planning; self evaluation of health trainer competencies.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
