PPE5003 - Supporting Transitions

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Explore issues related to transitions from family to child care and within school settings
2 Evaluate the theory related to personality development and its relationship with developing independence
3 Outline theory related to self identity and how this relates to confidence in transitions
4 Reflect on the application of theory to their work situation

Content:

This module explores early development theory related to attachment, early learning and self-identity, and relates this to a child’s ability to cope with transitions through the first eight years.

Students will be expected to identify common themes and arguments in the theory and research and conflicting viewpoints, with how these may have arisen. In addition to developing their awareness of the theoretical context for transitions, students are expected to reflect critically on how their theoretical awareness can be applied to their professional practice.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
