PEY6072 - Areas of Learning 2

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Evaluate the effectiveness of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum
2 Critically review Ofsted and other official reports relating to EYFS outcomes in a range of settings
3 Critically analyse a range of perspectives on early childhood education including those from other countries

Content:

This module will develop the students’ understanding of the Early Years curriculum from birth to 5. Students will be expected to research how effectively the curriculum has been applied in schools and other early years settings.

Students will be expected to critically analyse a range of perspectives and approaches to early years education eg. Reggio Emilia, Scandinavian approaches, Montessori etc.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
