PEDA181 - ICT 1 (Junior Years)

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

(1) Show a developing knowledge and understanding of ICT and its related pedagogies in order to support teaching and learning at KS1 and KS2 (Q14)
(2) Have a developing knowledge and understanding of the the National Curriculum and QCA Scheme of Work for ICT and how ICT is integral to the Primary Strategy. (Q15)
(3) Use information Technology, including word processing, data bases, internet communication, information retrieval and on line searches (T2)

Content:

- Audit of trainees’ pre-course experience, confidence and competence with ICT
- Introduction to the College ICT systems, protocols, email, internet access, file management and basic computer operations
- Develop trainees’ knowledge of Health and Safety, Legal, Ethical and Data Protection issues in relation to ICT
- Introduction to and familiarization with the National Curriculum and QCA Scheme of Work for ICT.
- Introduction to, and use of, appropriate technologies to support teaching and learning in the KS1/KS2 areas of learning.
- Introduction to the use of ICT to support early learning and the support of the the Core subjects at KS1 and KS2
- Have a beginning knowledge of ICT as a subject and how it can support teaching and learning across the Primary Curriculum and their wider professional activities
- Be aware of national policies and guidance of the safe use of the world wide web

Learning and Teaching Information:

Each taught session of 2 hours will take the form of a 3 part lesson:

1 Introduction with session aims and objectives ( approximately 15 minutes)
2 Trainee engagement in, and development of, appropriate tasks (approx. 1 hr 30 mins.)
3 Plenary-feedback and identification of learning and next step.(approx. 15 mins.)
During the course of each session there will be tutor/trainee interaction to meet individual needs and help develop skills, confidence, competence, knowledge and understanding relating to the aims and objectives.

On-going self evaluation will be part of the trainees identification of needs.

Course documentation, support materials and web based materials will be available on the VLE.
