The focus of this module is to draw together aspects of teaching and learning using government reports, inspection evidence and classroom research to inform the debate about effective teaching and learning. Recent curriculum developments such as the Primary National Strategy will be considered, along with the principles of “reflective” pedagogical practice, and school improvement. This module is designed and scaffolded to enhance independent learning and provide a bridge between college-based training and school “big picture”!!
The module provides opportunities for trainees to appreciate the problematic nature of educational theory, policy and practice, encourages the interrogation of educational processes and develops in trainees the ability to construct and sustain a reasoned argument. This module also promotes the ability to work with and, as a result of the development of interpersonal skills, the capacity to plan, to share goals, and to work as a member of a team.
