On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Demonstrate an understanding of key theory related to the social, emotional, physical, cognitive development of children, young people and adults
2 Consider the impact of socio-economic status, gender, sexuality, age, disability, race, religion and culture on people’s development and behaviour
3 Reflect on their interactions with young people and adults in light of research in these aspects of people’s development
In this module students will consider themselves, as individuals, and their clients or colleagues in an overview of theory and practice related to development, motivation and behaviour
Knowledge: personality theory, a range of influences on development
Reflection: consider their own development and motivations and how that may impact on their practice
Application: Evaluate interactions with clients and consider how their background and environment have impacted on their behaviour and development
Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
