On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
(1) demonstrate a systematic understanding of the social, cultural and political influences on the radio production process
(2) devise, plan, and produce a radio feature and a sequence programme
(3) demonstrate an ability to work effectively in a team to meet deadlines and utilise resources effectively
(4) critically evaluate the process and the finished product
The module builds on previous production experience by providing opportunities for students to develop further both their general production skills and one of the specialised areas of news, features, studio direction, or presentation. It examines the crucial roles of creativity, narrative, historical and political awareness in the radio production process. It explores the communication process involved in “live” radio. It also addresses topics such as news values and the ethical aspects of the editing of actuality. There is an intensive period of self-directed team-based production.
The scheme assumes recruitment of 30.
