MFC5052 - Radio Broadcasting

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. demonstrate a critical understanding of the main types of contemporary radio product and locate them in their historical and contemporary contexts;
2. script and present a radio interview;
3. demonstrate a critical understanding of the practices involved in pitching ideas and producing a radio advert;
4. work effectively in a team to research and present a programme (advert) proposal and critically evaluate the process.

Content:

The module provides an understanding, awareness and appreciation of the radio medium and its historical context as well as developments into new media. It examines the main radio genres, styles, audiences, codes and conventions. It provides tuition and practice in the basic radio skills involved in writing and interviewing and develops presentation skills for pitching.
