LMCM4073 - Strategic Leadership in Children's Services

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Express a critical understanding of national, regional and local priorities for the children’s workforce and the related agencies including the Children’s Plan
2 Demonstrate a critical awareness of the policies and procedures guiding strategic operation and leadership including Trust arrangements; commissioning; cross-professional team leadership
3 Critically evaluate national cases for the application of strategic leadership skills including complex problem solving; long term planning; awareness of the impact of their decisions on the ‘big picture’

Content:

This module will focus on the skills specific to strategic leadership, building on the students’ awareness of operational leadership in the multi-agency workforce. They will review the national setting for developments in the children’s workforce to critically analyse the skills required to manage change and the complex environment of children’s services and multi-agency working.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
