LMCM4043 - Policy & practice in Integrated Services

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate a critical understanding the historical development of Government policies from the 1989 Children Act to the current position
2 Critically evaluate current National Children's Plan and the practical arrangements which have been developed
3 Critically analyse the local Children's Trusts arrangements
4 Critically reflect on how local strategy and policy impacts on their own practice

Content:

In this module students will critically review the legislation changes from 1989 to present day in England to include the impact of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the significant events which have triggered changes to children's services.

Examples of topics that will be included are:
1989 Children Act, Victoria Climbie Inquiry, Every Child Matters, 2004 Children Act, 2006 Childcare Act, Common Core of Skills & Knowledge for the Children's Workforce, local Children & Young People's Plans.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research, and action learning sets. Students will be supported by VLE materials, directed reading and workshop sessions. Students will be expected to keep up-to-date with Government policy and guidelines by frequent reference to appropriate websites and newspapers.
